Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Support

The Office of Instructional Resources (OIR) provides thesis and dissertation students use of the Faculty Multimedia Center (FMC); Digital Image Processing Lab (DIPL) free of charge for production/preparation of ETDs and related components, including scanning, PDF creation, and conversion of existing files into acceptable formats.

Use of the FMC computer lab is also available free of charge to any student preparing an ETD, and services are available during OIR business hours.

Please call the FMC at (407)823-2571 or DIPL at (407)882-1191 to schedule an appoinment for ETD services.

In some cases, distance students may make arrangements for over-the-phone training, or may email their document to OIR for conversion to PDF.

FMC and DIPL are unable to store in-process or finished work on their hard drives or elsewhere in their facility: Students are responsible for saving all of their own work. While FMC and DIPL's services are free, use of printers and media consumables (CDs, disks, etc.) will incur a nominal charge.


FMC's services include:

  • Help with PDF conversion
  • Document and image scanning
  • Conversion of files to acceptable ETD formats
  • ETD-related training sessions in the Multimedia Classroom Lab

FMC's equipment includes:

  • 30 PC Pentium
  • 4 Macintosh G4
  • 1 Macintosh G5
  • Film/Slide Scanners
  • Flatbed Scanners (Document & Photo Prints)
  • Assistance to transfer files to CDs or DVDs
  • Software: PhotoShop, Office XP suite, Adobe Acrobat, OmniPage Pro and much more

DIPL's Services include:

  • Flatbed scanning
  • Transfer of digital file
  • High speed document scanning (B&W or Color)
  • Digital imaging consulting
  • Imaging support for theses, dissertations and oral defenses


ETD Workshops

To accommodate the growing number of students producing a thesis or dissertation, ETD workshops are now coordinated by the Graduate Students Association (GSA). Workshops will be held in spring and fall semesters, and will cover the ETD process, ETD resources, and Microsoft Word styles. Stay tuned to the GSA website at www.gsa.graduate.ucf.edu for dates and times.

The Faculty Multimedia Center will be offering three workshops on MS Word for ETD, the dates are:

  • Monday, February 11, 9:00am
  • Tuesday, Februrary 12, 3:30pm
  • Wednesday, Februrary 13, 3:30pm
